Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an American indie-folk ensemble band led by Alex Ebert, vocalist of

the power-pop group Ima Robot.

 

The band's first full-length recording, Up from Below, was released July 7, 2009 digitally and July 14, 2009

physically on Vagrant Records. Its first show as a full band was played July 18, 2007 at the Troubadour in

West Hollywood, California.

 

After breaking up with his girlfriend, moving out of his house, and joining a 12-step program for addiction,

Ebert began work on a story about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe.

Gladys Knight & The Pips were a soul and rnb family musical act from Atlanta, Georgia, United States, active from

1953 to 1989. The group is best known for their string of hit singles on Motown's 'Soul' record label and Buddah

Records from 1967 to 1975, including the songs "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (1967) and "Midnight Train to

Georgia" (1973).

 

The longest-lived incarnation of the act featured Gladys Knight on lead vocals alongside backup singers 'The Pips',

which included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight as well as their cousins Edward Patten and William Guest.

The Jam was a punk/mod revival group formed in Woking, England in 1972 consisting of Paul Weller (vocals, guitar),

Bruce Foxton (bass, vocals) and Rick Buckler (drums).

 

The band split in 1982. The band released six albums and had 18 consecutive Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom

between 1977 and 1982, including four #1 singles (Going Underground, Start!, Town Called Malice and Beat Surrender).

 

Their singles "That's Entertainment" and "Just Who Is the Five O'Clock Hero" are the best selling import singles in UK

history.

New Order is a new wave/synthpop band which formed in 1980 in Salford, England, United Kingdom by the

three remaining members of Joy Division. The band's classic lineup consists of Bernard Sumner (vocals,

guitar, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass, electronic percussion), Gillian Gilbert (keyboards, guitar) and Stephen

Morris (drums, keyboards).

 

The group effectively disbanded in 1993 but reformed in 1998. Gilbert left in 2001 to look after her and

Morris' children and was replaced by guitarist/keyboardist Phil Cunningham. Hook left acrimoniously in

2007 and declared the band to be defunct.

Simple Minds are a Scottish pop and rock band that achieved their greatest worldwide popularity from

the mid-80s to the early 90s, still playing to a massive fan-following today.

 

The group, from the South Side of Glasgow, has produced a set of critically acclaimed albums in the early

80s. It also has secured a string of successful hit singles, the best known being their #1 worldwide hit single

"Don't You (Forget About Me)", from the soundtrack of the John Hughes movie The Breakfast Club and

their worldwide hit single "Alive and Kicking".

 

The band has sold more than 40 million albums since 1979, breaking to the U.K. Top 40 chart a full 24 times
