Cancel that last question. I answered it myself. : ) Figured out how to do it using MP3+G Toolz. Seems to work ok.

HERE'S HOPING THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN HELP WITH AND NOT TOO FAR ASTRAY FROM THE THREAD'S TOPIC, BUT DO YOU HAVE A COPY OF MP3+G TOOLZ. I HAD ONE COPY ON MY PC BUT IT DISAPPEARRED RECENTLY AND I'VE WANTED IT ON A COUPLE OF LAPTOPS BUT CAN'T FIND THE INSTALL FILE.

Easy when you get to it :)

On the left-hand go to your karaoke drive (or make a karaoke folder.

Right-Click and select Recurse - that will select all of the sub-folders

Right-Click again and select Batch >> Add to DB to add all of the files in the

sub-folders to the database.

Re-started karaokes about 6 weeks ago and took a new 4Tb drive, almost full

of ZIP and Video karaoke that hadn't been gone through - and didn't realise

until I had set all of the PA lights and mics up.

Took about 25 minutes (amazingly quick) to go through the drive and I just

used Windows Eplorer (I know roughly which directories that most popular

stuff will be in, I mean search SF, Mr E, Zoom for current stuff) to search for

the tracks that I during in that time and dragged them into VDJ.

What I love about VDJ is the way that the search works; you don't have to put

complete words in - Avril Lavigne 'Sk8er Boi' type in sk8; Amy Winehouse 'Back

to Black' type in wineh bla; Bronski Beat 'Smalltown Boy' just type in smallt;

and there your results are :)

So do you usually Recurse and then "add to search DB" in VirtualDJ before going to the gig? Just finished zipping a lot of karaoke and the VirtualDJ search takes a long time when there are thousands of files. Reading the tags from zipped files seems to take forever.

Do you have the same experience?

Nope not at all.

I take a 4TB 2 two-and-a half inch drive with me and only recurse

if necessary.

When I have new tracks to add I just drag each directory into the

'queued songs' window and the when I've done them all, I select

the whole lot and drag them into the left window (which is recursed

etc.) and they get added; then I delete them from the queued songs.

If I remember, I'll even do it at home before I leave :)

The drive that I take out is a smaller subset of my main collection

(that I'm gradually going thru to remove dupes) and has approx

175000 tracks of audio+g and video karaoke. Takes about 25 mins

to go through with a new recurse and add.

Alright, thanks for your response BJtheDJ. I'll try adding new ones thru your 'queued songs' window method.

And you zip all your tracks, right?
