DaveyDee Posted December 10, 2023 Report Posted December 10, 2023 I find it quite interesting the different formats that Karaoke has evolved through: Cassette and 8-track with printed songsheets - a pain to have to get them enlarged to a point that people could read from them; Laserdisc with expensive and sometimes unreliable playback machines and some (at times) quite questionable background imagery - think Playboy discs; VCD that tried to be a low-res and cheaper answer to LD; CDG; DVD and Super CDG; And now MP4... and yet probably the most influential and long lasting of all the formats has been the clean display of what started out as CDG - the simple, uncluttered display of words on a plain background. For a few years, I used to run a Luma-Key system, that overlaid the words over a live feed of the performers singing. This worked best with product from producers like Legends and Sunfly, that displayed the lyrics at the bottom of the screen, but eventually this became impractical with more product using the full screen for the display of the lyrics. Has anyone else used tech in unusual ways over the years to enhance their shows? 1

Snr. Administrator BJtheDJ Posted December 11, 2023 Snr. Administrator Report Posted December 11, 2023 I can definitely attest to the fact that PassionHouse was totally unconnected with the other two companies, having enjoyed a friendship with Dudley and Bea for many years and their wonderful service whilst they ran their retail shop. Sadly, despite branching out into other areas of entertainment, they shut up shop in part due to the growth of digital avaliability of product. Dudley was also quite influential in getting media created by other producers, and supporting smaller producers by marketing their product. I believe he was also the first distributor of Priddis discs in the UK! If he's in Ashford Middlesex then I've bought some discs from him to fill some gaps; he did tell me that he used to have a shop. wilkinp4 Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 Before any uploads are finished, Pop Hits discs are numbered by year then month, Eg 0905 (2009 May) with the codes AC - Adult contempery, C# - Classics, M - Monthly, MR - Retro, N - Nashville, PT - Phat Trax, R - Rock, T - Today, GH - Greatest Hits and U - Urban. Depending on your collection they are labeled either PHM or PH____M. So you should only have 12 discs of each type per year. Hope this makes sense to everyone. I usually leave it to BJ to explain the DiscIDs! 2

Wow, i am missing a fair chunk...

Some of the December releases were 2 disc sets, and they also had some re-releases with slightly different track listings too, so you could have more than 12 discs per set, per year!
