Why is it that disc naming once again looks more like deciding whether to put the milk in before or after pouring the tea in the cup?

Now we have PH(YYMM)XX, PHXX(YYMM), PHMXX(YYMM), - where XX is the series and (YYMM) is year and month...

About the only code format that someone hasn't come up with yet is XX(YYMM)PH(M), but I'm not counting it out.

I'm not even going to get into RYO!!!

Totally agree with you there!

There seems to be no definitive info on the actual Disc ID codes, there are differences between retailer codes, listing software codes, even manufacturer codes (where available)...

I know BJ did try to clarify things, but when it comes down to how people choose to name their files, it seems that anything goes, and there are just as many opinions as there are grains of sand on a beach!

I was trying to create a unified resource for people by hosting collections on my MEGA as no-one seems to be using the torrent site anymore, but with so many different naming 'conventions', I have given up for the moment, With Christmas and New Year to deal with, I don't have the time available to re-name the various DISC-TRACK ID's to try and make sense of the whole mess, or to maintain the MEGA share

Hello. Going to give another try for a large collection of Spanish/Latin Karaoke to include fairly new releases. I have a lot of old stuff but looking for releases in the last 1-5 years. I am doing a Karaoke party for work and my Spanish karaoke I have is over 10 years old. Thanks all.

Here are a few that I have

Hi DaveyDee. Your resource has been invaluable to me in enlarging my karaoke database. I really appreciate that you maintain your folders with integrity and also by updating as you receive new missing karaoke files.

The PHXX RYO debacle is difficult for to follow, especially with my lack of history in karaoke. Hopefully we can get back to it in the New Year.

Thanks for the tremendous amount of work you have already done!

I agree, but that was how I originally got the PHs, and like you, I didn't have the time to rename them so I have stuck with them. Now when it comes to downloading I have to rename them all to match what I have, but I am not complaining, as I am getting them for free.

As for naming conventions, well, everybody has their own way. Some people prefer to use "And" in the artist, but others use the "&". Codes at the end or the beginning, it depends on how you want to find a song when you are working and thats why people name them different.

That was an actual thing with MMO, the difference between PSCD and PSCDG, and JT and JTG...

That is one reason why Disc codes are important, that little 'G' at the end of the prefix indicated whether they were an 'Accompaniment' or a 'Karaoke' disc.

Quite often there were even tracks on 'G' discs that were without graphics, and it was all down to whether they could obtain a 'Sync' licence or not.

Looking at some of the discs you listed, some are Accompaniment discs, but there are quite a few that should have graphics. It is really annoying when tracks are shared that are incomplete or mis-titled, isn't it!

I am quite ok with people who use either the Standard or Baltimore naming conventions on their files, and even the &, Ft., W., doesn't really phase me that much.

The ', A' and ', The' issue is a bit more annoying, but can also be lived with if the files are downloaded from torrents or shares. After all, if you use KJFM or MFR them those issues are minor in the grand scheme of things.

My real bugbear is the re-structuring of Disc Codes and ID's. I got into PC karaoke just after the Millennium, after many years working through cassette and 8-Track, LaserDisc, VCD and CDG, being increasingly dependent on correct identification of Discs from a collection of thousands of discs.

It seems that the Computerisation of karaoke has done away with all that, even down to people thinking that it is quite normal to carry just that one 'ideal' version of each song, or stripping down to one version per manufacturer.

I know I probably sound like an old fart, but where is the fun or even the skill in that? My regulars would lynch me if I did that sort of 'rationalisation', they know which Manufacturer (and in many cases the Disc and Track) that they want to sing. and I am told quite oftem that they prefer to come to me because I carry the versions they like to sing!

Gone are the days of remembering which Sunfly version of 'Kingston Town' or 'Through the Barricades' to use (believe me they are different!). or which version of 'She's Out Of My LIfe' to use, (Only use the first one if you are neurodiverse, the lyrics are so out of sync!).

Come on guys, hard drives and SSD's are so cheap nowadays, and hosting software search algorithms are so effective now you really can afford to carry all those tracks, not just the 'sweet few' that sound to you like the perfect tracks. THere will be someone out there who doesn't share your opinion, and remember they can vote with their feet!.

Does anyone else download tracks at gigs when you get those requests that you don't have in your library?

If you do, do you:

A. budget a specific amount of the fee on 'On the spot' downloads,

B. just keep going if there are a large number of tracks you don't have?

or if you don't download at gigs, do you:

C. tell them you don't have it tonight, but will get it for next time,

D. just say you haven't got it and leave it at that?

Or even worse, are you a saddo like me, who, finding that that requested track isn't available for download anywhere but you have the original track in the music section of your library, (or you can get a good quality download of the music track!) quickly download the lyrics, DeMIX [yes, I do carry my iLok on my keychain to gigs!] or UVR5 the music track, run up KCD+GCP [other software packages are available!] on your spare laptop and quickly sync the track and have it ready for them later on in the evening?
