Does anyone else download tracks at gigs when you get those requests that you don't have in your library?

 

If you do, do you:

 

A. budget a specific amount of the fee on 'On the spot' downloads,

B. just keep going if there are a large number of tracks you don't have?

 

or if you don't download at gigs, do you:

 

C. tell them you don't have it tonight, but will get it for next time,

D. just say you haven't got it and leave it at that?

 

Or even worse, are you a saddo like me, who, finding that that requested track isn't available for download anywhere but you have the original track in the music section of your library, (or you can get a good quality download of the music track!) quickly download the lyrics, DeMIX [yes, I do carry my iLok on my keychain to gigs!] or UVR5 the music track, run up KCD+GCP [other software packages are available!] on your spare laptop and quickly sync the track and have it ready for them later on in the evening?

It's very different for you guys out doing your 'traveled to' karaoke gigs, I have it considerably easier as I only (in summer - 01 May to 30 Oct) present karaoke shows in my own bar, pretty much every day. Everything remains set-up'ish with 6 wall-mounted screens, 5 wall-mounted speakers connected in stereo and potentially 5 microphones (if I let somebody use mine), if a group of people come in and want to sing earlier than our regular start time, I can set them up singing in less than 10 mins. If I don't have a requested song I would download an mp4 video version during the show or buy a KV track, if that doesn't work - I tell them I'll get it for them for the next day, then search more or ask this group. Despite having karaoke every night, I guess it's only around once a month, or so, I get a song request for something I don't have. My people who want karaoke are pretty captive as we are the only bar in the resort offering it. I don't ask for a fee for a song even if I have to purchase a download as we make more than enough on their bar bills.

As a side issue my preferred karaoke is: 1 Zoom, 2 MCH, 3 The newer Sunfly discs or Sound Choice, however, I can't believe how many people ask to sing Elvis songs which seem to be only on Music Maestro

Music Maestro produced a lot of Elvis tracks that other companies didn't, and they did a good marketing job of re-releasing their discs as the Velvet Elvis Sets.

 

Some of the Sound Choice Elvis tracks were better than the Music Maestro ones, but they never produced everything Elvis did between them.

 

Karaoke Version have picked up a few more Elvis tracks, along with Zoom (mainly the London Philharmonic re-releases), and medleys.

 

Mind you, I have still had to create several Elvis tracks that were unavailable from the commercial producers, to keep customers happy, mainly the lesser known (by some!) movie songs.

As far as I know, the last DCK uploaded was 774...

 

As to the Share, I have pulled them at the moment, it was getting to be too much hassle with people commenting on naming structures, etc...

to the root of my Share, you will need to search through the DCK folder to find and download the discs you are after.

Hi Daveydee, the mp3's are 128kbps but they are not zipped, in the folders are regular mp3 and CDG files, 200 folders x mainly 15 mp3's and 15 CDG tracks in each. The file properties were confirmed by the Mega link

Not zipping the mp3 and CDG takes up quite a bit more disk space. Does not matter, though, if you've got the space to do it.

Easier to edit tag lines in VirtualDJ also.

That would make sense then, as a lot of mine are 320k
