You're wrong there. That would be a function of the player that you're using and not what Scottie kindly shared with us. VLC is not a program that I would recommend for playing karaoke, in fact there isn't a video player that I would recommend. Playing with the version that I have here v3.0.18 Vetinari - I find that it while it will play MP3s with their corresponding CDGs, it will play only the MP3 if an MP3/CDG zip is dragged into the program. SFAIK any of the current DJ players which are advertised as playing video will do the job for you - I use VirtualDJ. You can download and use the program for free from their site; I bought mine so that as and when and if I need support I can get it easily. Here on my home computer I use WinAmp with two add-ons. One of them gives WinAmp the ability to play CDGs which match the name the an MP3 that's playing. The other add-on plays the content of a ZIPfile, which means that dragging a zip into WinAmp starts it playing the content straight away. Once it's playing it's easy to use the left/right arrows to jump through a song looking for bad GFX.

No probs; for me a good vid is preferred by the punters rather than blocky CD+G graphics - especially when large screen TV are available at the show site and VirtualDJ handles them with no problems at all. Maybe someone can use the very good audio from this and put CDG to them for you.

Can't help you with the Don Henley or John Waites songs. There is a version of When Doves Cry by Ginuwine on SBI. it's not treggae but very close.

I can't find a karaoke version anywhere, but there is a 'Sing it Yourself' version on YouTube - where the lyrics appear on screen but with no guide as to when to actually sing them, so it's a necessity to know the song in advance really. Since your singer obviously knows the song then it might do the trick. This version is faster than I remember it from my schooldays, but slowing music and/or videos nowadays isn't a problem at all. Looks like a classic typo reversing 12 and getting 21, I for one am going to rename my 21's to 12's. Fills the gap between 11 and 13 nicely. Gives us ZHS021 as well Weird that numbering system; ZSH021 Big Hits of 2021 ZHS022 Big Hits of 2022 ZHS023 Big Hits of 2023. But Big Hits of 2020 is ZKK03, the third and last part of their Karaoke Kings series.

My folders for those discs were downloaded one helluva long time ago. most likely from usenet or karaoke-world - back in the day when we were lucky to get rips at 128kb/sec and scans wre hardly ever posted. I for one will welcome proper rips of those sets please.

I don't have the sets with a dash at the beginning of the name, it's there to remind me that I don't have then and that the directories are empty.
